Why Use Results-Oriented Job Evaluation

Job Evaluation is used to:

  • Understand job requirements
  • Recognize varying demands among jobs
  • Rank jobs from most demanding to least demanding
  • Compare jobs within and across functional lines
  • Pay equitably according to job expectations

A ranking of jobs typically forms the base of equitable pay rates among jobs in a department or throughout the organization.

A job ranking is usually divided into job grades—clusters of jobs—that are of similar value to the organization. In other words, all jobs in a job grade require similar training and experience, have similar demands on them, and produce a similar contribution to the organization.

Market information is added to the job grades to convert them into pay grades to guide pay administration.

Job Evaluation, along with our other products—job descriptions, job standards, job objectives, and job-specific employee management forms—is an integral part of a total Results-Oriented Management Strategy.
