Why Results-Oriented Job Objectives
Job Objectives establish a result (goal, target, achievement) that an employee must accomplish in order to fulfill job responsibilities.
For sure, then, Job Objectives need to be written in a manner that focuses on the results needed instead of on the tasks being performed to accomplish the results.
For example, the job description of a Waiter/Waitress states one of his/her responsibilities as:
- PREPARES TABLES FOR DINING
by
- cleaning and covering tables; setting utensils, napkins, decorations, condiments, candles, and service plates.
The dining room manager sees the need to reduce the time to prepare tables. Thus, an effective Job Objective would be written as:
- REDUCES TIME TO PREPARE TABLES
by
- identifying quicker ways to communicate when diners are preparing to leave by September 6.
